Langnes

Langnes

I got a set of graduated neutral density filters as a Christmas present, and have been waiting for a chance to try them out. These filters can be used to take photos in situations where (for example) the foreground is dark, while the sky is much brighter. Without a filter, this usually results in either an overexposed sky or a underexposed foreground. Today just after sunset, we drove to Langnes, the area near the airport. It was fun to play…

Skating on Ramfjorden

Skating on Ramfjorden

Between all the aurora watching, we also found time for skating. Paul bought some skates and he was very keen to try them. On Sunday we got a text message from a friend who lives on the shore of Ramfjorden, to tell us the ice was safe and there was very little snow – good skating conditions! Aurora time lapse 22/23 January 2012

Aurora time lapse 22/23 January 2012

This weekend was filled with northern lights! Yesterday they showed up as soon as it was dark enough, and continued almost all night. I braved the cold wind for a couple of hours, and made this time lapse video. It consists of 367 images taken over about 2.5 hours, each image an exposure of 20 seconds. Enjoy! 🙂 (For best viewing, choose HD and watch fullscreen!)

Soldagen 2012

Soldagen 2012

The sun is back! I was unfortunately stuck at work, but we have quite a nice view from the roof, so I did get some pictures 🙂 There were silly clouds JUST on the horizon in the south, everywhere else the sky was completely clear 😀 At the same time, Paul was on his way to the top of Tromsdalstinden, the mountain in the picture above. Look at the beautiful views that he had along the way… He dug out…

Topptur i Mørketid

Topptur i Mørketid

The weather forecast for yesterday was good, and since there was rain in the forecast for today, we decided to make the most of it. Eelke and Roy had chosen the first top on the way to Tverrfjellet, a mountain that I had once climbed in summer. We decided to join. I don’t have randonnée ski’s, and took my snowshoes instead. I was curious to find out if I’d be able to keep up with them. We started early and at…
