A sunny day off

A sunny day off

Today (ascension day) is a day off in Norway. After a period with cold and grey and rainy weather, it seemed spring arrived overnight yesterday – nice warm sunshine :). So we decided to go for a hike in the forest today. We took the tbane to Frognerseteren with lots of other people with the same idea. We chose a small path away from the main dirt road, and we soon had the forest to ourselves. It was a beautiful…

A bike ride

A bike ride

Four photos from my bike ride in the forest today. Spring is here, but last week the weather was unusually cold and it even snowed a couple of times (meanwhile in Tromsø it was 17 degrees… crazy!). Yesterday it rained non stop so I was glad when the sun came out again today. I’m excited that the hiking and biking season has started again 🙂

Spring Walk

Spring Walk

Spring is here! I went for a walk along the fjord, enjoying the pretty clouds and the sunshine. I found a lot of “blåveis”, a blue flower (common hepetica in English) which is a well known sign of spring in Norway but it doesn’t grow in Tromsø 😉 Geese are arriving in big numbers, there are buds on the trees – I love it 🙂

Bygdøy

Bygdøy

Today was a gloriously sunny day in Oslo, and I decided to go for a walk on the Bygdøy peninsula. There is a coastal path which goes around the whole peninsula, and there are some really nice beaches. Lots of people were out to enjoy the sunshine, there were even people having BBQ’s and picnics on the beach, with the children playing by the water – never mind that the fjord is frozen!! 😀 The atmosphere was really nice, and…

Skiing in Indre Østfold

Skiing in Indre Østfold

We had a lot of sunshine this weekend, but as I was knocked down by the flu, I haven’t been out at all. So instead, here are some photos from last weekend when I went went skiing near Rakkestad (Indre Østfold) with Marie and Pål. A beautiful area, with narrow tracks through the forest – quite a challenge for me (I am used to having lots of space 😉 ) which resulted in some bruises 😀 but it was a great day out!…

Snow in Oslo

Snow in Oslo

Oslo got another fresh layer of snow last weekend, and when the sun came out on Saturday I just had to go for a walk through the snowy city 🙂 I ended up in Vigelandsparken, which I had never seen in the snow before – it was so pretty! I am trying something new with my blog – instead of the small thumbnails they are now much bigger. You can still click on them for an even larger version with…

Light Pillars

Light Pillars

It’s been really cold in Oslo (down to -13) and a couple of days ago, a really cool optical phenomenon was visible: light pillars. Some people thought they were seeing the northern lights, as the pillars were quite strong and very colourful, but this is a different phenomenon where city lights are reflected by tiny ice crystals in the sky. I thought of going to a viewpoint over the city, but as it was really cold, I decided to stay…
