Lenticular Clouds

We’ve had strong winds coming from over the mountains, creating waves (high up in the air) resulting in lenticular clouds. They were very pretty, and the colours were fantastic! I just had to get some photos 🙂 These were taken from the south tip of Tromsø island. There was a strong wind at the beach, the waves were crashing (I had to avoid the spray!) and it was COLD! I had jumped in the car a bit too quickly, and didn’t take enough layers of clothes with me – I only lasted about 10 minutes outside 😀

A Snowy Sunday

Today we took the cable car up and went snow shoeing. We were on our way to Fløya when we got caught by a snow storm which lasted about 45 minutes. We were actually inside the cloud and we could hardly see anything. Everything was white, my eyes were getting confused! After a while, we decided to head back to the cable car station as there wasn’t much point in continuing without any view. While on our way back down, it suddenly cleared up, and the views came back!

It snowed a lot yesterday and last night, it was so much fun to walk in the fresh deep snow 🙂 In the second photo you can see the wall of snow next to the cable car station. They use a snow blower to create a path around the building, which makes it easy to see how much snow there is – a LOT!

The panorama below is a photo I’ve been wishing to take for a long time – Tromsø island in the twilight, when all the city lights are on but the sky is still light. It was taken just before 14:00. We had a nice warm drink in the cafe before heading home – a fun Sunday!

Hyacinth time lapse

Hyacinth time lapse

Last week Hanneke bought some hyacinths in the supermarket. We took this timelapse video of 2 of them flowering – unfortunately the blue one decided to attack the pink one 😉 We set up the camera to take a photo every 10 minutes for about 2 days. The photos are played back at a rate of 15 images per second.

If we were to do this again, we would probably just choose one plant and hope it didn’t grow wonky!
