A Snowy Sunday

A Snowy Sunday

Today we took the cable car up and went snow shoeing. We were on our way to Fløya when we got caught by a snow storm which lasted about 45 minutes. We were actually inside the cloud and we could hardly see anything. Everything was white, my eyes were getting confused! After a while, we decided to head back to the cable car station as there wasn’t much point in continuing without any view. While on our way back down, it suddenly cleared up, and the views came back!

Inside the snow shower... my hair was turning grey ;) The view came back! Looking at the south tip of Tromsø island

It snowed a lot yesterday and last night, it was so much fun to walk in the fresh deep snow 🙂 In the second photo you can see the wall of snow next to the cable car station. They use a snow blower to create a path around the building, which makes it easy to see how much snow there is – a LOT!

Fun in the snow... after sledding down a steep bit on my snow shoes More than a metre of snow!!

The panorama below is a photo I’ve been wishing to take for a long time – Tromsø island in the twilight, when all the city lights are on but the sky is still light. It was taken just before 14:00. We had a nice warm drink in the cafe before heading home – a fun Sunday!

  1. Wow that’s a lot of snow! I’d so jealous! We’ve had a few inches here the week before last, but it’s all melted now. And that panorama is something beautiful and amazing. Could you please upload a high-resolution version? I’d love to use it as a desktop.

Greetings from the biggest northern Norway fan in England

    1. Hi Ben,
I uploaded the full size version, you should find the link underneath the panorama thumbnail. Enjoy 🙂
We did have a lot of snow, but today we’re having temperatures above zero and rain again…
      Take care!

  2. Mama mia!!! Dat’s a lotta of snow!!! LOVE the pics!!! Your faces show the fun you had. That beautiful red hair, Hanneke..Wow!..I bet your macro would have shown big beautiful flakes adorning your hat and hair ever so softly. Oh! that pic of Tromso island is Just Beautiful!!! I have seen LOTS of pics of Tromso all over the web in travelogues, blogs and almanacs. I do not think I have seen one like yours yet. It is certainly suitable for framing. It is just a festive happy and inviting smile from Tromso to the world..very apropos for the season. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Hello Martha 😀 ohh the snow flakes falling that day were so pretty, I wish I could have captured them!
I’ve wanted to take a picture of Tromsø island like that for a long time- It’s even prettier on a clear day when the sky turns orange at “sunset”, perhaps I’ll have an opportunity to capture that too one day 🙂
Take good care, I’ll try to write you soon!

  3. Thank you. It means a lot to me, the possibility of watching my beloved Tromso – views so often, so beautifully shaped by careful photographer.

  4. Hey! thank you for all these nice stories and nice pictures. I am moving (today) to tromso for three years from the Netherlands. And your stories made me really enthousiastic and curious. Thank you!

    1. Hey Eelke – thanks, that’s a really nice compliment! Wat leuk dat je ook naar Tromsø komt! Als je een keer wil afspreken, hoor ik het wel – ik stuur je een email 🙂 Hoop dat je verhuizing vandaag goed is gegaan, ondanks het slechte weer…
